Recipe | Homemade vanilla extract

It’s easy to make your own vanilla extract at home, which is so much satisfying than the store-bought variety.

Use it in any way that you would commercially-made vanilla extract, from eats to drinks, including our Chilly Leprechaun iced coffee cocktail HERE [LINK]

Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients

1 cup of vodka, such as Blue Ridge Vodka, crafted in Virginia [LINK]

4-5 whole vanilla beans

Method

Split each vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape seeds into a glass jar. Pour in vodka and seal jar.

Place jar in a cool, dark place for six to eight weeks; the beans steep overtime, so the longer the jar sits, the more intense the flavor becomes. For best results use within a year.

Note: this recipe can be doubled or even tripled easily. For a 1.75 liter bottle of vodka, use 40-45 vanilla beans.
