As Hurricane Dorian churred her way up the Atlantic coast on Sept. 6, 2019, we sat at in our Virginia Beach, Va. home, watching weather reports on television, and trees swaying outside in tropical force winds.
Just before noon, when it was apparent the rest of the day’s plans were going to be canceled, I took to heart the quote, “You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning.”
I grabbed a bottle of my Four Farthing Spiced Rum [LINK] and a bottle of Cureo Coffee Liqueur from my partners at Chesapeake Bay Distillery [LINK] and crafted the Adios Dorian, wishing the storm a swift departure out to sea.
Here’s how you make it:
In an Old Fashioned Glass, add 1 ounce of Four Farthing Spiced Rum and 2 ounces of coffee liqueur; stir to incorporate. Add ice and stir; serve.
You could add an ounce or two of milk (or almond milk or coconut milk) or heavy cream if you wish before adding after adding the coffee liqueur and doing the first stir.
A splash of orange liqueur would also be a nice addition, as well as a premium maraschino cherry garnish. Yields one cocktail.
